Iogen Energy and Shell scrap Canadian biofuel project

Iogen Energy Corporation and its joint owners, the Royal Dutch Shell and Iogen Corporation, are scrapping plans for a larger scale cellulosic ethanol biofuel facility in southern Manitoba, Canada, and is shedding 150 jobs.
The moves comes as Iogen refocuses its strategy and activities, with a smaller development program.

Shell says it continues to explore multiple pathways to find a commercial solution for the production of advanced biofuels on an industrial scale, but that it will no longer pursue the Manitoba project.

Iogen Corporation will continue to employ approximately 110 people at its Ottawa headquarters and plans to expand its line of offerings with new technology for the production of advanced and cellulosic biofuels.
