US, Israel Call For Added Pressure On Iran Against Nuclear Threat

The United States and Israel have called on the international community to continue efforts to put pressure in changing Iran's "strategic calculus" and preventing that country from acquiring nuclear weapon capability.

A statement to this effect was issued by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon after holding U.S.-Israel Strategic Dialogue in Washington on Monday.

The Strategic Dialogue that reviewed in depth many of the issues that affect mutual security and partnership between the two allied nations, repeated their concern that "Iran is among the greatest challenges we face today in the Middle East."

The U.S. and Israeli delegations, headed by Steinberg and Ayalon, agreed that Iran's continued noncompliance with its international obligations related to its nuclear program, as well as its continued support for terrorist entities, are of "grave concern to our two countries and the entire international community."

The semi-annual Strategic Dialogue is an opportunity for both the U.S. and Israel to discuss at a senior level a variety of issues, their respective perspectives, and evaluate their policy implications.

The statement said United States and Israel were committed to working together to enhance regional security and stability.
