HVCC lands $3.5M in stimulus funds for solar training

Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y., is scheduled to receive $3.5 million in federal stimulus funds to develop a new solar voltaic training facility.

The program will be located at Hudson Valley’s TEC-SMART building being built at the Saratoga Technology + Energy Park in Malta, about 25 miles north of Albany. The money will be used to establish a network of instructors that will train students how to install solar power systems.

“These awards recognize the important work being done in New York State to develop a more sustainable energy infrastructure that will create jobs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen New York’s energy security,” Gov. David Paterson said in making the announcement Friday.
