Brazil falls behind in wind development

Despite a rapid uptake of wind power in Latin America, Brazil is lagging behind, according to a report by the National Agency of Electric Energy (Aneel).
 
According to El Cronista Comercial, this year the country has signed more than 10 000 MW of installed capacity in 450 wind farms.
 
However, according to the Aneel audit report, approximately a third of the wind projects granted permission is officially behind schedule.
 
In total, there is 1676 MW of pending capacity, 680 MW of which relates to projects tendered in 2009 and which consumers are expected to start paying for next year.
