China Guodian to boost renewable energy capacity

China Guodian Corporation, one of China's top five power generation groups, expects renewable energy sources to make up 40 percent of its installed capacity by 2020 from about 10 percent now, an executive said on Jun 8.

The company plans to add 3.5 gigawatts of wind power capacity annually for at least the next three years, Guodian's Executive Vice President Mi Shuhua told reporters. Total wind capacity stood at 5.35 GW at the end of 2009.

"We are also pushing for development of solar power and clean hydropower. We are also participating in nuclear energy development," said Mi.

He said power generating margins were currently under pressure from high coal prices, and added that the company was looking at energy and power projects in Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Australia and South Africa.
