Northern Reliability Inc. (NRI) will install a 500-kW solar/1,200-kWh battery at Vermont Electric Power Company’s (VELCO) headquarters in Rutland, Vermont. VELCO will draw on the energy stored at the Pinnacle Ridge Solar and Storage Project instead of depending solely on the grid.

KORE Power was chosen as the lithium battery provider. NRI will construct the project along with fellow Vermont renewable energy company Catamount Solar.

“NRI has served the United States government and military, the scientific community, the utility sector and private institutions with solar and energy storage solutions,” said Lindsay Gorrill, CEO of KORE Power. “Now, the fact that this global leader has chosen our technology for this project in its own back yard—where reputations can matter most—is a testament to NRI’s faith in our American-manufactured technology. We look forward to helping VELCO benefit from renewable power and energy storage and are thankful for our partnership with NRI. We see many opportunities to continue working together to deliver a high-quality solution that guarantees reliability and stability.”

“Delivering the highest quality product to our valued utility customers is NRI’s first order of business and that begins with choosing the right component vendors. With nearly 50 years of experience in energy storage, NRI knows the importance of choosing the best possible products to be included in their solutions. NRI has selected KORE Power for the VELCO project not only because of the quality of their platform, but the team behind it. We’re looking forward not only to working with the KORE team on this initiative in Vermont, but on larger projects across North America,” said Jay Bellows, president and CEO of NRI.

VELCO is actively pursuing a wide range of initiatives to better leverage substations, radio sites and other assets across the state to stabilize rates, increase use of clean power, expand broadband connectivity and enhance grid reliability. Work on the Pinnacle Ridge Solar and Storage project is well underway and slated for completion by the end of 2020.
