A2SEA signs installation contract for offshore wind farm

Denmark's A2SEA has signed a contract to provide installation services for an offshore wind farm being built off the coast of North Wales.

Under the terms of the contract with RWE, A2SEA will provide its jack-up vessels, Sea Jack and Sea Worker, which will install 160 Siemens 3.6MW turbines at the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm.

Jens Frederik Hansen, A2SEA CEO, said: "The vessel solution secures optimum discharge and logistics from the load-out port. Through good cooperation with RWE we anticipate an efficient, safe and smooth project execution."

Toby Edmonds, RWE npower renewables Gwynt y Môr project director, said: "This contract with A2SEA will ensure Gwynt y Môr remains on schedule to deliver clean green energy from 2013.

"The vessels will work in conjunction with our own Seabreeze class construction vessel, Friedrich Ernestine, that will install wind turbine foundations in 2012/2013. We anticipate that the first completed turbine will begin generating electricity in 2013."
