Minnesota Power is planning a $160 million generating capacity expansion at its Bison wind farm in North Dakota. The company plans to increase the generating capacity by 105 MW.
The company sent a letter of intent to the North Dakota Public Service Commission for the project's second phase, which will bring the total capacity on site to 185 MW. The current phase has 31 wind turbines. Phase 2 is expected to have 35.
Work on Bison 2 is expected to start in early 2012 and be completed by the end of 2011.
Minnesota Power also expects to install the remaining 15, 3 MW wind turbines at Bison 1 by the end of 2011.
