The Crow Lake wind farm in South Dakota is operating.
North Dakota-based Basin Electric Power Cooperative says the last of 108 turbines was ready in late February at the $363 million project just east of Chamberlain. It took about five months to complete construction.
The wind farm built by a Basin subsidiary has the capacity to produce 162 megawatts of power and Basin owns 150 megawatts, which Basin says makes it the largest wind project in the country owned solely by a co-op. It overtakes another Basin project near Minot, N.D., that has 77 turbines.
Basin sends electricity to 135 rural electric systems in nine states.
