India and Iran to step up ties in renewable energy

BL reported that India and Iran have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of renewable energy.


In a meeting with the Mr Mehmoud Ahmadinejad president of Iran, Dr Farooq Abdullah union minister of New and Renewable Energy called for stepping up bilateral ties and economic cooperation with Iran especially in the field of renewable energy.


Earlier in the day, Dr Abdullah met Mr Majid Namjou energy minister of Iran. Dr Abdullah also had meetings with Mr Hossein Sadegh Abedin governor general of Shiraz and Dr Alireza Zakar Esfahani governor General of Isfahan.


Dr Abdullah recalled the ancient cultural and civilization ties between the two countries and the similarities in lifestyle and languages. He called for enhanced cooperation in tourism, cultural exchanges and people to people contacts.
