11.6 MW solar energy system to be built

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) will build and own an 11.6 MW direct current solar energy development.

LADWP will install, own and operate the system. SolarWorld will supply system engineering and solar panels and will procure balance-of-system components, including SMA America inverters. SolarWorld will also supply 46,322 of the company's 250 watt modules.

The Board of Water and Power Commissioners approved the project in December 2010. Work on the project began in February at LADWP’s Adelanto Switching and Convertor Station.
