Japan PM Kan: Renewable energy pillar of Japan policy

Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan said on Tuesday that renewable energy would be one of the pillars of the country's energy policy.

Kan told a news conference that energy-saving policies would also be a key part of the government's long-term energy policy.

Japan's government is reviewing its long-term energy policy and the role of nuclear power after a massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11 triggered an ongoing crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in northeast Japan.
