Work starts on 15.2MW solar park at former German military airport

Construction on the Rothenburg IV solar park in Saxony is underway.
The 15.2MW ground-mounted solar power system is being developed on the premises of a former military airport by Gehrlicher Solar AG. It will add to three other solar parks at Rothenburg, which have a combined capacity of 21.8MW.

The project features Gehrlicher's specially designed GehrTec Base substructure to accommodate the solar modules. The modules are being supplied by Yingli and BYD (each providing 7.6MW), while SMA is supplying the 16 inverters which will be used to convert the direct current into grid-conforming alternating current.

Commissioning of the solar park is planned for September 30th. It will then be sold to investment group KGAL, located in Grünwald near Munich. "With the project in Rothenburg we continue the good and trustful cooperation with Gehrlicher Solar AG," commented KGAL board member, Dr. Klaus Wolf. "Together with the already operating solar parks in Zamora (Spain) and Perleberg we thus have acquired solar power plants with a total capacity of 60MW for our investors from Gehrlicher."
