Share of renewable energy sources in draft updated Energy

Interfax cited Mr Oleksandr Rohozyn NCER member as saying that the National Commission for Energy Regulation considers the share of renewable energy sources foreseen in the draft updated Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2030 too low.

He said that "According to the commission, the share of renewable energy sources is too low, taking into account our commitments to the EU."

Mr Rohozyn said there was indeed a problem of balancing renewable energy sources, but it has its own technical solutions. He noted that feed-in tariffs for some renewable energy sources would soon be lower than retail electricity rates for consumers.

The expert said "Over the past eight years our retail tariffs have grown by 20% per year. Even if they continue growing by 7% starting from this year, next year the average retail tariff will be higher than the tariff for small hydro power plants, in 2017 it will exceed that for renewable energy sources, in 2018 exceed the tariff for bio-energy, and in 2030 it will reach the level of solar power."

As reported, on June 22 the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry took as a basis the draft updated Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2030.
