Mortenson's Renewable Energy Groups is building 11 new wind projects in the U.S. totaling 1,363 MW and two additional wind power projects in Canada totaling 307.8 MW. The company said it is "cautiously optimistic" about the prospects for wind growth across North America in 2011 and 2012.
The 443.9 MW Rolling Hills wind farm, owned by MidAmerican Energy Co. in Iowa. It will use 193 Siemens 2.3 MW turbines and is expected to be completed in December 2011.
The 119.6 MW Laurel Wind Farm in Iowa, also owned by MidAmerican Energy. It will use 52 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines and construction is scheduled to begin in July 2011.
The 29.9 MW Pomeroy IV Wind Project in Iowa and owned by MidAmerican Energy. The 13 Siemens 2.3 MW turbines are scheduled to be installed by October 2011.
The 50 MW Macho Springs Wind Project in New Mexico, owned by Element Power. The farm will use 28 Vestas V100-1.8 MW turbines. Construction is expected to be complete by September 2011.
The Elk Wind Power Farm in Iowa, owned by RPM Access. Mortenson will design and construct access roads, foundations, underground collection and a 69 kV substation.
The 44 MW Oak Glen Wind Farm in Minnesota, owned by Minnesota Municipal Power Agency. Mortenson will build 24 Vestas 1.8 MW turbines and a 69 kV substation. Construction is expected to be complete by December 2011.
The 102 MW Coram Ridge Wind Project in California, owned by Brookfield Renewable Power and Coram California Development Management LLC. The project will use 34 Vestas 3 MW turbines. There was no word on construction.
The 132 MW Dempsey Ridge Project in Oklahoma, owned by Acciona Energy North America. The project will use 66 wind turbines, a transmission line and a substation.
The 205.5 MW Lakefield Wind Farm in Minnesota, owned by EnXco. The project will use 137 GE 1.5 MW turbines and is expected to be complete in October 2011.
The 150 MW Sherbino 2 Wind Farm in Texas, owned by BP Wind Energy. The project will feature 60 Clipper Windpower 2.5 MW turbines Along with a transmission line, a project substation and an interconnect substation. The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2011.
The 49 MW Mountain View IV Wind Energy Project in California, owned by AES Wind Generation. The farm will use 49 MHI 1 MW turbines and is expected to be complete in December 2011.
Mortenson also formed an operating group dedicated to installing high-voltage electric transmission and distribution systems. In the past 16 years, Mortenson built more than 73 high-voltage substations and interconnects through 345 kV and more than 175 miles of transmission lines through 345 kV.
