Maple Energy on track for H2 start to ethanol project operations

Peruvian-focused Maple Energy plc said it remains on track to start commercial operations at its $254m ethanol project on the country's northern coast during the second half of 2011.

Uni-systems, Inc. has manufactured about 85% of the sugar cane handling, juice extraction, and juice treatment equipment required for the plant. Contractor Haug S.A. has completed about 48% of the civil works.

The company plans to plant 7,800 hectares of sugar cane in the first phase of development of its land in the project area and about 7,600 hectares has been cleared.

Construction is progressing on a 43km water pipeline system, with around 33km installed. The Macacara pump station has been substantially completed.
