Japan to carry out stress tests at nuke plants

Japan will carry out 2-stage stress tests for the nuclear power plants in the country, local media reported Monday.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told reporters that the restarts of nuke plants would be be decided after the first stage was concluded.

The stress tests are designed to measure the extent to which nuclear reactors can withstand sizable earthquakes and tsunamis and to identify potential weak points, according to the government 's nuclear safety agency.
