Brazil Adds Small Hydro Plants, Thermal Plants to Reidi Program

Brazil's mines and energy ministry has added two small hydropower plants and a thermal project to the government's special infrastructure development incentives program known as Reidi, wire services reported.

The 2-MW Mestre and 3.5-MW Santa Cecilia small hydro plants are located in Mato Grosso state. The 13-MW Eldorado thermal plant is located in the center-western state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Reidi provides incentives including a five-year tax holiday on goods and services and is part of the government's growth acceleration plan known as PAC.

Recently, Brazil's mines and energy ministry added two other small hydropower plants and one solar power plant to the Reidi program.

The hydroelectric projects are the 9.6-MW Cascata Chupinguaia hydro plant located in the northern state of Rondonia and the 10-MW Agua Brace hydro plant in Mato Grosso, reports indicate.

The solar plant has a capacity of 5 megawatts and is owned by local energy company MPX. It is located in the northeastern state of Ceara.
