Aries and Wind To Power launch LVRT retrofit for Spanish solar PV

Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas and Wind To Power System (w2pS) have entered a partnership agreement to supply an integrated low voltage ride through (LVRT) solution for solar photovoltaic (PV) to ensure compliance with new Spanish regulations.

The partnership aims to bring together the capabilities of the two companies to offer a competitive solution for the requirements stated in Royal Decree 1565/2010, of 19 November, relating to the mandatory requirements to adapt solar PV plants over 2 MW to comply with operational procedure O.P. 12.3 on the response to voltage dips for solar PV.

Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas and w2pS will distribute a turnkey integral solution that includes the design, engineering, legalisation, installation and the processing of the final certification of a solar PV plant.

The solution includes:
Universal medium voltage system, independent of the number and type of inverters installed in the solar PV plant. It is connected in parallel with the substation of the power plant, not causing losses or affecting the performance of the solar PV plant. As opposed to low voltage solutions, the maintenance required is minimal as it is a single system;Dynamic reactive power regulation, making it possible to obtain the maximum 4% bonus established in the current regulations; and Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas and w2pS guarantee the adaptation and all administrative processes necessary to legalise the modification applied in the solar PV plant, together with the coordination of its final certification.

Roberto Fernández, CEO of Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas, says: “We have a unique integrated solution guaranteeing compliance with the legislative requirements and, at the same time, simplifying the maintenance of the power plant and reducing the risk of faults. Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas has applied the solution in its own photovoltaic power plants ARSOL-1 and ARSOL-Toledo.”

David Tuohy, CEO of w2pS, adds: “We are proud to join forces with Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas. Having captured 40% market in Spain for LVRT compensation for wind we selected Aries as the best partner to realise our commercial goals for LVRT compensation in the solar sector.”
