The BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest is an important brand event to promote the implementation of the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution. Since 2020, it has been successfully held for five sessions, creating a positive atmosphere for innovation cooperation and talent training of the partnership. The expansion of BRICS member countries and the participation of BRICS partner countries in 2024 have brought wider international participation to this year’s contest. The track is open not only to traditional BRICS countries, such as Brazil, Russia, and South Africa, but also to newly joined member countries and “BRICS+” countries, such as Bolivia and Mexico, which greatly enriches the diversity of participating projects and broadens the international perspective.
The theme of the Contest is “Unleashing the potential of Greater BRICS cooperation and achieving inclusive and sustainable industrialization”, and the Contest will set up five tracks: “Artificial Intelligence”, “Green Industry”, “Low-altitude Industry”, “Energy Electronics Industry”, and “Industrial Design”. The Energy Electronics Industry Track focuses on innovative technologies, products, and innovative applications in new energy-related fields such as photovoltaics and new energy storage, and collects outstanding projects with outstanding innovation capabilities, excellent application effects, and promising market prospects from BRICS and “BRICS+” countries. The tryout will be held in Zhaoqing High-tech Zone, Guangdong in late August, and the finals will be held in Xiamen, Fujian in September. The track not only provides a platform for contestants to showcase their talents, but also contributes to the sustainable development of energy in BRICS countries and even the world.
Zhang Qiang introduced that with the establishment of the energy electronics industry track, this year’s contest provides a platform for member countries and partner countries to showcase the latest scientific and technological achievements and share innovative experiences, which will not only promote technology transfer and industrial upgrading, but also deepen the cooperation and friendship among countries in new energy-related fields.
The press conference announced the official launch of the energy electronics industry track tryout. The track is open to energy electronics industry-related enterprises, scientific research institutions and colleges and universities in BRICS and “BRICS+” countries. From May to August, the selection competition will conduct project application, project preliminary selection, project roadshows (offline and online) and expert review in turn. At the end of August, the award ceremony of the BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest 2025 Energy Electronics Industry Track Tryout will take place in Zhaoqing High-tech Zone. A exchange seminar themed “New Energy Industry Quality and Efficiency Improvement, Assisting New Industrialization” was held at the same time, and industry experts and representative enterprises from the High-tech Zone will be invited to share cutting-edge views and display the latest results on the development of Zhaoqing’s new energy industry, and promote the deep integration of industry, academia and research.
Against the background of the global energy structure transformation, the energy electronics industry has been witnessing unprecedented development opportunities and challenges. In recent years, Guangdong Province has proposed to build a “new energy strategic emerging industry cluster” and focus on supporting key technologies such as photovoltaics and power batteries.
In recent years, Zhaoqing High-tech Zone has closely followed the layout of Zhaoqing as a key area of the province’s automobile industry, and has made every effort to build a first-class domestic new energy vehicle production base, battery manufacturing base for cars and energy storage. In 2023, the new energy vehicle industry in Zhaoqing High-tech Zone was selected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as a national-level new energy intelligent networked small and medium-sized enterprise characteristic industrial cluster; it was recognized by the Department of Industry and information Technology of Guangdong Province as a provincial-level new energy storage characteristic industrial park in 2024,which is currently the only one in Guangdong, and has introduced leader companies such as CATL and XPENG.
At present, Zhaoqing High-tech Zone is continuing to strengthen the investment promotion of new energy storage industries, focusing on the development of key areas such as key materials and spare parts of lithium batteries, lithium battery recycling, etc., to promote the formation of a relatively complete new energy storage closed-loop industrial chain, and strive to create a demonstration of energy storage battery production integration and application clusters.
The energy electronics industry track is highly consistent with the industrial development direction of Zhaoqing High-tech Zone. By promoting the preparation and implementation of the track tryout, it promotes the effective connection between the participating projects and the industrial resources of the Zone, forming a virtuous cycle of “incubation-cultivation-growth-feedback”. At the same time, it brings together innovative ideas, innovative projects, and innovative enterprises to help Zhaoqing High-tech Zone enhance its industrial competitiveness and international influence.
As the organizer of the competition, Zhaoqing High-tech Zone has established a special preparatory working group to link departments and industry enterprises, implement the competition organization structure and human and material resources, and formulate a series of guarantee work such as publicity and promotion, logistics services and multimedia technical support in order to ensure the high-quality and efficient holding of the selection competition. It will actively play the industrial advantages of the “provincial new energy storage characteristic industrial park” and the application scenario advantages of the provincial demonstration project “Zhaoqing High-tech Zone Source Grid Load Storage Integration Project”, Zhaoqing High-tech Zone provides a comprehensive competition display and technical support space, and takes the most of the advantages of Zhaoqing High-tech Zone’s new energy industry agglomeration, organizes enterprises to participate in series of activities in Shenzhen, Shanghai and BRICS countries,to strengthen exchanges and communication with BRICS countries and international organizations, to explore cooperation opportunities, and to create more possibilities and broader market space for the subsequent transformation of the results of the competition.
