Stanford gets $100M for renewable-energy research

Stanford University has received $100 million in donations to construct an institute to research green-energy sources that also improve U.S. security. The goal of the Precourt Institute for Energy will be "making renewable-energy cheaper than fossil fuels," said Stanford President John Hennessy. Oil executive Jay Precourt donated $50 million to the institute that will bear his name, with the remaining $50 million in donations from other individuals and foundations.
