German-Austrian joint venture for wind farms featuring the world's biggest turbine

German project developer juwi has formed a joint venture with Austria's Verbund AG.
The partners will cooperate on major wind farms in Rhineland-Palatinate, which includes projects in Ellern, Seibersbach, Dörrebach and Dichtelbach (in the Hunsrück) and in Stetten.

Commissioning of the 21 turbine wind farm portfolio (totaling 86.1MW) will take place gradually from the end of 2012 to mid-2013. Overall 21 wind turbines, including five 7.5MW Enercon E-126, will be brought online.

The E-126 is the most powerful turbine currently available on the international wind energy market. One of the 7.5MW units can supply around 5000 households with electricity, notes juwi.

"The Austrian electricity supplier is fully committed to renewable energy and already generates 90 percent of its electricity from renewable sources," says juwi CEO Matthias Willenbacher, adding the two will make "a great team".

"The purchase of this wind farm portfolio is a strategic move for Verbund," says the Austrian firm's CEO Wolfgang Anzengruber. "Germany is one of our key target markets for the future."
