Endurance and Met Office cooperate on UK wind assessments

Small wind turbine provider Endurance Wind Power (EWP) and the UK's Met Office are joining forces to provide wind speed assessments for UK customers.

The partnership aims to bring accurate wind speed measurements for customers who install an Endurance E-3120 50 kW wind turbine together with the Met Office's Virtual MetMast, a site-specific, hub height wind prediction tool.

"Endurance requires fast, accurate and cost-effective wind analysis as a critical requirement for its wind projects and we are pleased to be able to support these objectives through Virtual Met Mast. Our technology provides site-specific wind analysis of long-term wind speed and direction, as well as analysis of turbulence intensity, wind shear and extreme gusting statistics, all of which are critical to maximising turbine efficiency and performance," says Stephen Norman, Senior Wind Energy Consultant, Met Office.

The wind speed assessments could provide a baseline for predicting revenue generation from the Government's feed-in tariff (FiT) programme.
