Up to 50 killed in Baghdad suicide fuel tanker bomb

The death toll rose to 50 from a suicide oil tanker bomb attack in a petrol station in western Baghdad on Wednesday and 60 others were also injured, a well-informed police source said.

"Our latest reports said that up to 50 people were killed and at least 60 other were wounded in the suicide oil tanker bomb attack," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Many of the victims were badly charred by the huge blast, he said.

A suicide bomber drove an oil tanker rigged with explosives and blew it up in a busy petrol station in Mansour neighborhood at about 2:00 p.m. (1000 GMT), the source said.

The powerful explosion set many cars ablaze and badly damaged the station, he said, citing initial police reports.
