PTTEP Launches ‘Lan Sang Arun’ Solar Project To Harness Clean Energy In Thailand

PTTEP has launched a solar power project “Lan Sang Arun” to harness clean energy for the petroleum production process in the S1 Project. This marks the first instance in Thailand where power from renewable energy sources is employed to support petroleum production activities. This initiative helps reduce GHG emissions by approximately 13,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, supporting PTTEP’s endeavor to achieve Net Zero Emissions and become a low-carbon organization.

Mr. Montri Rawanchaikul. Chief Executive Officer of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), revealed that under PTTEP’s goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 with the EP Net Zero 2050 concept, one of the key actions is to reduce the carbon emissions from the company’s production process. Therefore, PTTEP has developed a solar power project called “Lan Sang Arun”, located in Lan Krabue District, Kamphaeng Phet Province. This initiative is the first project in Thailand that utilizes clean energy for power generation supplied to the petroleum production process at S1 Project, by reducing the gas-generated electricity and CO2 emissions.

The power generation from solar energy at Lan Sang Arun has commenced since July 2023. It is expected to reduce the carbon dioxide emitted by the production process by approximately 13,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, equivalent to the forestation of 1,300,000 trees in absorbing GHG per year.

The 9.98-megawatt solar power project is operated by FutureTech Energy Ventures Company Limited (FTEV), a subsidiary of PTTEP that runs the clean energy business including renewable energy and hydrogen, in preparation for the energy transition and sustainable growth. Recently, FTEV has invested in the development of a sizable green hydrogen production project by using wind and solar energy in the Sultanate of Oman, reflecting PTTEP’s efforts in expanding business into clean energy.
