Kansai Electric Restarts Nuclear Reactor Shut Because of Leak

Kansai Electric Power Co., Japan's second-largest power producer, restarted the No. 1 Ohi nuclear reactor in the central prefecture of Fukui, after shutting the facility because of a radiation leak.

Kansai Electric resumed operating the 1,175 megawatt reactor on Sept. 8, the Osaka-based company said in a statement on its Web site. The utility shut down the reactor on Sept. 4 after discovering a radiation water leak. The radiation released into the air through the plant's ventilation system posed no harm to the environment, the company said.
