Hunan to pour1.2B into wind power construction

Hunan province, in south central of China, plans to invest 1.2 billion yuan in the wind power industry in 2009, according to JML Pacific Epoch.

To achieve the annual wind power output to hit 1 GW in the next ten years, the province enhances its strength to construct its wind power.

Currently, the Yuanjiangluhu project and Yueyangjun wind power farm has started the first phase of construction; while the 77.44 million kWh per year Yangtian Lake project, currently under construction by China Huadian Corporation's Hunan subsidiary among others, may begin production before 2010, according to subsidiary Vice General Manager Zhou Xiao'ou.

According to a research in 2003, Hunan is rich in wind energy, with a wind resource reserve totaling 32.2 million kilowatts.

The wind power installed capacity in 2007 of Hunan was 1,700 thousand kilowatts, and the generation was only 3,300 thousand kilowatts.
