Gov. Bill Ritter thinks the federal government should spend money on both new and traditional source

Gov. Bill Ritter thinks the federal government should spend money on both new and traditional sources of energy as well as highway projects to stimulate the economy.

Ritter laid out his ideas for the federal stimulus in a proposal sent to Barack Obama on Tuesday. It comes a week after Ritter and other governors met with the president-elect in Philadelphia to talk about the economy.

Ritter says Colorado has 160 road projects that could begin right away if the federal government provides $1.4 billion in funding.

He thinks a federal stimulus package should include plans for a system of power lines for renewable energy. He also suggested making federal loans to speed up the construction of natural gas pipelines.
