EDF EN commissions 50.6 mw wind farm in France

EDF Energies Nouvelles said it commissioned the 50.6 megawatt Villesque-des-Corbieres wind farm in France's Aude department.

The installation, comprising 22 wind turbines, is one of the largest wind farms in France and its projected output is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 75,000 inhabitants, the renewable energy producer said.

The farm is equipped with 2.3 mw turbines supplied by German manufacturer Enercon.

Villesque is the first in a series of major wind energy projects that EDF EN will commission in France by the end of 2008. Others include the 52 mw Chemin d'Ablis and the 87 mw Salles-Curan farms, the company said.

EDF EN has 483.6 mw in gross capacity either in service or under construction in France, it said.
