Chinese, Japanese FMs discuss Korean Peninsula nuclear issue on phone

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his Japanese counterpart Taro Aso on Thursday spoke positively of the latest development of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and pledged coordination in future efforts.

In a telephone conversation with Aso, Yang expressed the hope that all parties concerned will continue to take positive measures to fulfill their commitments and to implement the starting moves in a comprehensive and balanced manner so as to steadily push forward the six-party talks and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

China will maintain contact and coordination with all parties, including Japan, over the next moves in the six-party talks, he said.

For his part, Aso hoped the initial actions would be implemented as quickly as possible and said Japan would stay in touch with China.

Both foreign ministers also exchanged their views about the Sino-Japanese ties.
