China starts build 10-gW wind farm in Gansu

China will start constructing a 10-gW wind farm in Jiuquan, Gansu province on Friday, the first in a batch of similar mega wind power projects the country has planned to boost the proportion of clean energy sources in its power consumption mix, China daily reported.


China plans to build seven wind power bases with a minimum capacity of 10 gW each by 2020.


It was estimated that 120 billion yuan will be poured into this project and completed by 2015.


The country just revised its wind power capacity target to 100 gW by 2020; eight times its current level.


The total installed capacity of wind farms that have already been in operation or under construction in Jiuquan stood at 1.25 million kW.


The five top power generators are involving of this project, of which, Huaneng takes the leading place with a capacity of 500 thousand kW among the total 3.8-million kW in the first phase
