Algae Biofuel Production Scales Up In Iowa

Commence Phase II, all systems g Green Plains Renewable Energy and CLARCOR have announced that their joint venture, BioProcess Algae, has now completed construction of Phase II of its commercial scale Grower Harvester bioreactors in Shenandoah, Iowa.

The company built out its first such bioreactors in October of 2009, which exceeded productivity targets at varying harvest intervals during testing. The new, Phase II reactors at the 4,00 square foot BioProcess facility in Iowa are 20 times larger than the Phase I bioreactors and will begin the process of algae production at a commercial scale.

The algae produced from these reactors have potential uses in nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, biofuels and animal feed.
