Obama Inauguration Speech Highlights Gay Rights, Immigration Reform, Renewable Energy and the Middle

President Barack Obama gave his second inaugural address on Monday at 11:50 a.m. The speech lasted for 22 minutes.

"The most evident of truths – that all of us are created equal – is still the star that guides us," Obama said.

After being administered the Oath of Office by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Obama gave his remarks. The speech was the first of his second term and was an opportunity for the president to both congratulate his supporters on their immense victory and chart a path for the United States to move forward over the next four years.

The president talked on a number of policy issues including gay rights, renewable energy, foreign affairs, voting ease-of-access, and immigration reform.

On gay rights: “Gay brothers and sisters must be treated equal under law.”

On war: "We, the people, still believe that enduring security and lasting peace do not require perpetual war."

The president pushed his economic plan, laying out that, “America’s prosperity rests on the broad shoulders of America’s middle class.”
