Iranian Automaker to Manufacture 900 Thousand Fuel Efficient Engines

Iran's largest car manufacturer, Iran-Khodro Company (IKCO), intends to produce 900 thousand fuel efficient engines this year.
"Following the government's policy to optimize vehicles' fuel consumption in the country, fuel efficient engine production became a part of IKCO's agenda," said the company's Vice-President for Quality and Product Mir Javad Soleimani.

Soleimani referred to his company's determination to increase production of IKCO engines and said, "IKCO produced 70 thousand sets of its own engines last year and aims to increase this amount to 180 thousand sets this year; seventy percent of these engines are going to come in CNG-based form."

Localization of cylinder block and cylinder head for IKCO engines will enable the company to produce 700 sets of self-developed engines a day.

Soleimani said that IKCO is 90 percent self-sufficient in producing TU5 fuel efficient engines. IKCO and SAPCO are cooperating to reach 100 percent of self-sufficiency in this field.

TU5 and EF7 are fuel efficient engines. Following the rationalization of subsidies plan in Iran, IKCO announced that it would outfit most of its cars with these two engines. This plan cuts fuel subsidies and encourages customers to go for cars with lower fuel economy.

The intellectual property of EF7 engine belongs to IKCO. It comes in CNG based, turbocharged, gasoline and diesel types.
