A landslide killed at least 23 workers at a hydroelectric power plant construction site along a mountainside Tuesday in southwest China, a state news agency reported, citing government officials.
The accident, apparently triggered by heavy rainfall, happened in Kangding County in the Ganzi Tibetan region of Sichuan Province at about 1:25 a.m., according to wire reports.
The landslide crushed work sheds at the construction site, according to the region’s public emergency command center, Xinhua reported. In addition to the workers killed, at least seven others were injured, reports indicate.
