RWE Innogy increases Polish wind power project portfolio with Gamesa takeover

Germany's RWE Innogy has acquired the Taciewo onshore wind farm in northeast Poland from Spain's Gamesa.
The 30MW project comprises 15 Gamesa G90-2.0MW wind turbines and brings RWE Innogy's Polish wind portfolio to an installed capacity of 152MW from five projects. The wind farm can generate over 65,000MWh of electricity a year, enough to meet the equivalent annual requirements of over 32,500 Polish households.

The transaction marks Gamesa's third Polish wind farm sale in the last 18 months to RWE Innogy – the others were the 14MW Krzecin wind farm and the 32MW Piecki project. Taciewo borders directly on the Piecki.

"Taciewo and 152 megawatts now mark the midpoint of our Polish development targets," said Dr. Hans Bünting, CEO of RWE Innogy. "We intend to operate about 300 megawatts in Poland in 2015." Its next Polish project is the 39MW Nowy Staw wind farm, currently under construction. It is due to be commissioned early in 2013, Dr. Bünting said.

Gamesa's wind energy project portfolio in Poland amounted to 786MW as of June 2012, while its portfolio across Eastern Europe totalled more than 2500MW.
