The European Commission on Thursday sent a further final warning to Ireland to transpose new power market legislation into national law within months or face court action.
All 27 EU countries had to transpose the EU's third electricity and gas market opening directives into national law by March 3, 2011 but many, including Ireland, were late. The EC sent a first final warning to Ireland over the transposition of both the electricity and gas directives in June 2012 but on Thursday it sent a further warning to clarify its specific concerns about electricity.
"The additional reasoned opinion sent now complements the reasoned opinion that was already sent to Ireland in June 2012 and clarifies the Commission's views with regard to the transposition of the unbundling provisions in the Electricity Directive," the EC said in a statement.
