Sri Lanka invites proposals for 150 MW of solar parks

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) on Friday invited proposals for the installation of 150 MW of solar power generation capacity at 20 locations in Sri Lanka.

The CEB will be buying the power from the plants to be built as a result of the tender for a period of 20 years. The deadline for bids is May 21 and the tariff cap is LKR 15.6 (USD 0.086/EUR 0.076) per kWh.

Friday’s request for proposals (RfP) contains a list of 20 substations which will be able to connect between 3 MW and 10 MW of solar parks. Bidders in the tender need to specify the grid substation to which they want to connect their projects. There is no limit to the number of proposals a company can submit but the capacity per project needs to be between 1 MW and 10 MW.

The winners in the tender will be in charge of the design, delivery, installation, commissioning and operation of the solar photovoltaic (PV) farms. The date on which their names will be announced has not been determined yet.

The RfP is part of Sri Lanka’s Soorya Bala Sangramaya solar programme.

In a separate notice on Friday, CEB announced a new tariff cap of LKR 14.54/kWh for a 60-MW wind tender. The deadline for bids is March 12.
