Renewable Energy Systems completes 28MW wind farm in Scotland

Renewable Energy Systems (RES) has completed the construction of a 28MW Kelburn wind farm in North Ayrshire, Scotland.

Work on the farm started in June 2010, with the delivery of turbines in late 2011. Commissioning and testing of the last turbine began at the end of last year.

The wind farm consists of 14 units of Vestas' V80 2MW machines and each turbine has a height of 100m.

RES UK & Ireland chief operating officer Gordon MacDougall said the Kelburn wind farm continues the company's track record of safely delivering projects on time.

"Kelburn continues Scotland's success story in onshore wind and provides a secure home grown supply of electricity for Scottish homes and businesses," said MacDougall.

The wind farm will be able to meet the energy needs of 15,000 households, equivalent to about 24% of the households in North Aryshire.

RES has also set up a community fund, which will distribute over £44,000 a year for the 25-year operational lifetime of the wind farm.

Kelburn Wind Farm Community Fund chairman Drew Cochrane said: "I am delighted to hear that the Kelburn Wind Farm has been completed on schedule, and that our community committee is ready to receive applications to the generous fund RES has set up to award around £44,000 this summer for good causes in the area."
