National Solar announces plans for second solar project in Florida

National Solar Power plans to build 200 MW of solar photovoltaic facility in Hardee County, Florida and has reached an agreement to sell a portion of the output to Progress Energy Florida, the developer said Wednesday.

Talks with other potential off-takers are ongoing, it added.

The company in a statement said it plans to build the $700 million project in 10, 20-MW phases, with the first phase to start commercial operation six or seven months after the project secures required approvals.
Details of National Solar's power purchase agreement with Progress are not available at this time, said Ryan Banfill, spokesman for the developer. Spokesmen for Progress were not available for immediate comment.

National Solar in September said it would build a 400-MW solar PV facility in Gadsden County, Florida. The developer holds a 50-MW power purchase agreement with Progress, and is in talks with other potential off-takers for power from that project.

The company also on Wednesday said it had established Green Infrastructure Partners to help fund renewable energy infrastructure projects like the Gadsden and Hardee facilities.
