2nd Phase of Iran-Made Power Plant to Join Iraq's National Grid in 1 Month

Iranian engineers are through with the development of the second phase of al-Sadr Power Plant in Baghdad, the Iranian contractor announced on Sunday, adding that the power plant will join Iraq's national grid next month.

"The first phase of al-Sadr Power Plant in Baghdad was officially inaugurated with a 324 MW capacity in late April (in a ceremony) attended by Iranian and Iraqi representatives," Managing-Director of the 'Iranian Power and Water Industries Equipment and Services Export' Company Mohammad Parsa told reporters.

He further stated that the second phase of the power plant with the same power generation capacity will join Iraq's national grid in one month.

Parsa said that after the completion of the first phase of al-Sadr Power Plant, the daily power shortage in Baghdad has decreased from 19 to 16 hours.

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.

Both sides are working on a series of plans to take wide strides in the expansion of their ties, in economic fields in particular.
