Vestas wins 128 MW California turbine order

Danish wind turbine maker Vestas has won an order from a Californian utility for turbines with a total capacity of 128 megawatts, it said without giving a value for the deal.

"Delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2011 and commissioning expected in early 2012," Vestas Wind Systems said.

The order from the Sacramento Municipal Utility District was for 24 units of the V90-3.0 MW turbine and 31 units of the V90-1.8 MW turbine for the Solano 3 project near Rio Vista, California.

The contract includes delivery and commissioning and an up to 15-year service and maintenance deal, said Vestas, adding that it had supplied turbines for the Solano 1 project in 2005 and Solano 2 in 2007.

The deal will not affect Vestas's expectations for 2010, the company said. Vestas is scheduled to report third-quarter results on October 26.

Vestas said in a separate statement that Enel Green Power, a unit of Italy's Enel, was the customer behind a 400-megawatt turbine order announced in September.

On September 9, Vestas said it had signed a global supply deal for 400 MW of turbines in 2011-2014 and an option for an additional 1,000 MW with "a company with worldwide operations."

Enel Green Power said on Wednesday that it had agreed to sell power to be generated by its new 200 MW U.S. wind farm to the Tennessee Valley Authority as it seeks to expand in the U.S. market.
