Standard Energy, AMP in 300MW solar power deal

GAITHERSBURG, Md. -Standard Energy says it has agreed to develop solar power plants with American Municipal Power that will provide up to 300 megawatts of electricity in six states.

The deal with Columbus, Ohio-based AMP calls for solar electric installations in or near AMP municipal utilities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia. Construction is expected to start this year and finish within five years. AMP supplies wholesale power and services for 128 municipal electric systems.

Standard Energy, an affiliate of Gaithersburg, Md.-based Standard Solar, designs, constructs and owns utility scale power plants as part of a strategy to create regional renewable energy hubs. The company says the hubs include solar farms and assembly and distribution centers that service local renewable energy contractor markets.
