Company announces solar energy contracts with National Guard

Sierra Solar has announced a new contract for solar energy projects at several National Guard facilities in Nevada.

According to the company, it will provide photovoltaic parking lot structures at the Fairview Complex Headquarters in Carson City, the Las Vegas Readiness Center and the Floyd Edsall Training Center in North Las Vegas.

The three projects will generate a total of 3.4 megawatts of electricity. The company indicated that it will be responsible for the financing, design, procurement, operation and more at the three sites and that the power will be sold to the Nevada National Guard at a fixed rate for up to 35 years.

Construction is expected to start in November, and all three plants are expected to be completed by June 2010. A number of other military facilities around the countries have been adopting renewable energy as a way to save money and reduce their carbon footprint.

Elsewhere, two other companies, Ascent Solar and Energy Technologies, Inc. have announced that they will be working together to try to secure contracts for other solar energy projects from the military.
