Minnesota gets $3 million in renewable energy aid

WASHINGTON (AP) The U.S. Department of Agriculture is giving almost $3 million in renewable energy grants and loans to 60 Minnesota farmers and small businesses.

The money is part of the $62.5 million in loans and grants announced Thursday for 705 renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in 45 states and Puerto Rico. It's coming from the Rural Energy for America Program or REAP, an initiative to help revitalize rural America.

Minnesota has been awarded about $35 million through the REAP program since the program's creation in the 2002 Farm Bill.

The latest projects include wind turbines, geothermal heating and cooling systems, and replacing older grain dryers with more efficient models.
