Sempra Invests In 200-MW BP Indiana Wind Farm

SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)–Sempra Energy's (SRE) generation unit said Thursday it has taken a 50% stake in a 200-megawatt wind farm in Indiana being developed by a unit of BP Plc (BP).

Sempra Generation of San Diego said it has become an equal partner with BP Wind Energy in the Fowler Ridge 2 wind farm in Benton County, Ind. Units of American Electric Power Co. Inc. (AEP) and Vectren Corp. (VVC) have signed 20-year contracts for the output from the facility, which is to be built near an existing 400-megawatt wind farm. Together, the wind farms will produce enough power for about 180,000 homes, Sempra said.

Shares of Sempra closed Thursday 1% higher, at $51.06.
