Asemblon Receives Energy Innovator Award

Asemblon, Inc., announced today it has received an Energy Innovator Award from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

"We are happy to recognize Asemblon's work with the Energy Innovator Award," said Paul Dickerson, Chief Operating Officer at the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. "Accelerating clean energy innovations into the marketplace is a key way to increase our energy security and mitigate climate change."

Asemblon, a world leader in high-purity alkane thiols and surface molecular engineering, applied its organic chemistry expertise to the field of hydrogen. Asemblon is close to meeting the Department of Energy's 2010 goal for hydrogen storage efficiency by storing and transporting hydrogen on an organic molecule.

"We plan to meet the DOE's 2010 7% goal by the end of 2009 and the 9% goal for 2015 by the middle of 2011," said Pat Quarles, Asemblon's CEO. "Our scientists and engineers are committed to providing a safe, cost-effective solution to the key problems with the Hydrogen Economy: storage and transportation. Our patented solution does not require handling of either compressed or liquid hydrogen, therefore, we can deliver hydrogen to current fueling stations at ambient temperature and pressure for a price comparable to gasoline or diesel."

Over 400 different vehicles have been designed since 1990 that run on hydrogen. Plus, most of the 230 million cars and trucks already on the road today can be modified for dual-fuel operation: hydrogen plus gasoline or diesel.

The Department of Energy created the Energy Innovator Award to recognize businesses, individuals, and governmental agencies that have successfully developed or deployed energy efficiency and/or renewable energy technologies, services, or policies.
