British Energy Group Starts Unit at Hunterston B Nuclear Plant

British Energy Group Plc, whose nuclear reactors can produce about a fifth of the U.K.'s electricity, started production at Unit 7 of its Hunterston B power plant today.

The 600-megawatt unit began production shortly after 2 a.m. local time and was scheduled to run at a reduced output of 140 megawatts as of 8 a.m., according to data on a Web site run by National Grid Plc. Both units at Hunterston were taken off line on Oct. 4 because of internal power-supply problems.

Unit 8 at Hunterston, located on the west coast of Scotland, remained off line, the Web site showed.
