Environmentalists: Ohio could capture faster wind for energy

Alternative energy enthusiasts think taller wind turbines will be able to capture stronger wind gusts. That might mean more electricity could be generated in Ohio within ten years.

Proponents envision windmills with a base about 330 feet tall.

Four windmills in northwest Ohio provide part of Bowling Green's energy supply, the only municipality in the state to use electricity from wind.

Ohio lags some states in wind power because the state is one of only 12 that have no standards that are established for the use of renewable energy sources. However, new Governor Ted Strickland says development of alternative energy is now a priority.
