Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL)—an arm of integrated power company Tata Power—has received a Letter of Award  from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL)  to develop a 100 MW solar project in Maharashtra.

The electricity produced from the plant will be supplied to MSEDCL under a power purchase agreement (PPA), valid for a period of 25 years from the scheduled commercial operation date.

The company won this capacity in a Phase V auction by MSEDCL in December last year.

The project is required to be commissioned within 18 months from the date of execution of the PPA.

The plant is expected to generate about 240 million units of electricity per year and will annually offset approximately 240 million Kg of CO2.

With this award, Tata Power’s renewable capacity will increase to 3,557 MW, out of which 2,637 MW (932 MW wind and 1705 MW solar) is operational and 920 MW under implementation including 100 MW won under this LOA.

The MSEDCL project is the developer’s second large-scale solar win this month, following a 120 MW project from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL).

The electricity generated from 120 MW project in Gujarat will be supplied to GUVNL under a power purchase agreement (PPA), valid for a period of 25 years from the scheduled commercial operation date.
